Through our work with service users who have completed residential rehabilitation, we have found that the numbers of black users of drugs and alcohol entering and completing these services are very low. Black users are also reluctant to access a number of services which promote and support treatment, abstinence and on going recovery from drugs and alcohol .

In many instances this reluctance is due to lack of information available to black users, lack of cultural awareness by staff supplying these services and even discrimination and stereotyping.

We have started this service to try and eliminate some of these obstacles. We will provide this service to any black users as well as their family members or partners who need support because of problems with drugs or alcohol use.

A few facts about the service:

The service is run by users who are now clean, people who have worked for drug services and we all care about the black community.

The service isn't here to convince people to give up drugs or alcohol, or to tell anyone the rights or wrongs of their drug use.

The service is independent, it isn't run or funded by any statutory or government agency, it is confidential and we will NOT pass any information given to us onto any other agencies unless you ask us to.

We know black users can feel they may be judged by black people, we're not about that.

We know that not all users who abuse substances are addicts.

The service will:

Provide discreet one to one sessions to give you the space to discuss the areas that you feel are a concern to you, the session will look at where you would like to be and how we can help you get there.

Give full and honest information on the options open to you.

Provide an outreach service to enable us to reach black users within the community.

Provide a floating support service, to help black users who are struggling to maintain their tenancies in a number of areas (including, debts, health and social skills) because of their drug or alcohol use.

Support families and partners of black users by sharing information about drugs and alcohol, recovery or treatment services and also finding ways forward to work with the person they are concerned about.

How to find out more about the service:

You can call us on 079534 262 397 (we can call you back) to make an appointment or find out where our next group will be held..

You do not have to be "clean" from drugs or alcohol to use this service, but you cannot meet with us or attend any groups while you are under the influence of any drugs or alcohol.
